MIXED DOUBLES COMPETITION - Report

The weather Gods shone down once again on Captains Declan & Jacqui last Friday night for the competitive mixed doubles team competition .

Despite an ominous forecast  the weather turned to near perfect tennis conditions when the competition started at 7pm.

4 teams with 6 mixed partnerships per team battled it out .Matches and overall team results were very close with Team " Hit The Line" narrowly winning the competition.

Drinks and pizzas followed on what turned out to be a great evening of mixed doubles tennis so much so that there is demand to do it again !!

As Captains Jacqui & Declan cannot say no we confirm the next competitive mixed doubles is Friday 22nd November.

Sign up for free on easy payments.

As last Friday's event was free to enter we asked those participating to make a donation to the local SVP.Delighted to announce we raised 400 euro from the night  which has been sent to St Patrick Monkstown SVP.  Thank you to everyone who contributed

The group stages of the floodlight league finished up on Monday last. Team 1 (captained by Johnny O'Shea) had a tough home contest against Brookfield. Similarly, Team 2 (captained by David Keane) had a difficult away match at Greystones. That's it for men's league tennis until January 2025 and the commencement of the winter leagues. Many thanks to the captains, the players, the substitutes, the coaches, and the supporters for an enjoyable floodlight league campaign.

UPDATE  FROM  STEPHEN

Very best of luck to Lisa, Scott & Mickeymac who take to the courts in Barcelona today to represent Ireland in the Potter Cup....a huge honour for the three of you.

Speaking of International Events, Mary O'Callaghan jets off to Spain to  take part in an ITF tournament in Mallorca.  Again all the best to Mary!

I'd like to add my congratulations to Jennifer Byrne and her Team on winning the O / 60's league yesterday. A super result  & also gaining promotion to Class 1.

What an historic achievement for Cuala GAA Club when they won their first ever Dublin Senior County Final last Sunday.

There was a strong Monkstown Tennis Club connection, as former members Michael Fitzsimons & Con O'Callaghan were star performers in the final.

Charlie Mc Morrow, one of the youngest on the Cuala Team, played with a maturity well beyond his years.

Charlie represents Monkstown in various leagues on his "days off" from the football field.

As an U/12 he won the National Doubles Championship Title at Fitzwilliam and is one of the most talented athletes to have graced the courts in Monkstown.

More importantly, Charlie is up there with the most impressive, humble and thoroughly decent young men I have had the pleasure of coming into contact with.

How proud would his dear late dad, Mick, be of him right now.

Well Done "Chardles!"

Really looking forward to the Halloween camps next Tuesday - Friday!

 Cheers        Stephen
