MLTC NEWSLETTER 19th DECEMBER 2024
Men's Winter League - DLTC
Men's winter league tennis (doubles) kicks off on Sunday January 26 (morning slot for all matches). MLTC has entered four teams at class 2, class 3, class 4 and class 6. Basically, there is a team to suit every skill level at the club. All members are encouraged to sign up (either as a nominated player, or if time is an issue, as a substitute) - use the WhatsApp link below. The young lads are welcome too - just need to have turned 14 years of age as of 31 December 2024. No further action is required for those who responded to the WhatsApp poll earlier this month - over 40 blokes replied to the poll which is great. Teams will be nominated and registered with the DLTC on or before 21 January. More details to come in the New Year. Any question - ping Declan C , or our incoming men's captain Dermot Hayes

MEN’S COACHING – Monday Evenings
A reminder that coaching for class 4 to class 7 players runs every Monday evening at 9pm. The final session before the Xmas holidays will be on Monday December 23rd. New members / players are always welcome - come along and give it a go!! The younger lads are welcome too!! The dads might even bring their sons along!
PS. If you are in need of an original idea for a Christmas gift, then sign him up for men's coaching in the New Year!! ..... (use easy payments - code SOS4 and for the date insert "Men's coaching Monday 9pm".

JUNIOR COACHING
Junior Coaching – January 2025 Term
A reminder that booking is now open on Easy Payments and will close at 1pm on Thurs 2nd Jan.
All classes will commence the week of 6th January.
Please note: THERE WILL BE NO COACHING ON THE FOLLOWING DATES
Saturday 1st - Monday 3rd February – St. Brigid’s Weekend
Monday 17th – Friday 21st February – Mid Term
Saturday 15th - Monday 17th March – St. Patrick’s Weekend

CAPTAINS CHRISTMAS CRAIC….ER
Oh what a night
Thank you to everyone who joined Captains Declan & Jacqui to celebrate Christmas in MLTC last Sunday .
Such fun ...The Juke Brothers had the club house rocking again with so many great hits.
Drinks were flowing and our amazing events team headed by Ger Kane served delicious nibbles.Thank you Ger ,Mary & Genevieve ,you were all amazing as always and we can't forget another member of the team Frank Kane who has been such a help & support at every event we have ran
As well as our regular supporters we were delighted to welcome so many other members as well as a group of 'young ' adult members.A special thanks to Rachel McCawley back from Australia for Christmas and Lara Sommerville home from Canada.I'd love to say the girls flew in specially for the event ....but perhaps not
Captains Declan & Jacqui would like to thank everyone who supported the Christmas Craic..er this year ... a first for MLTC
Hopefully you have noticed from our captaincy that we have tried a few different social & tennis events this year and have also encouraged younger members to participate as they are after all the future of our club.
Finally thank you for your support throughout the year and on behalf of Declan & myself we would like to wish all members a Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year .

LADIES DOUBLES BOX COMPETITION
Box matches are now completed and I am delighted to advise that box winners will be announced tomorrow
This has been a very successful internal competition with a record entry of 100 members.
As it is such a busy time of year it is too difficult to get prize winners together in the club tomorrow so instead I plan to send out a newsflash with all the details .
Unfortunately a few players had to withdraw through injury so we hope you are recovering and back playing tennis soon.
Thank you for your support for this new format and for the positive feedback and to the 10 box coordinators who ran their boxes so well

CLUB NIGHT – Thursday Evenings
Club night will start at 8pm as usual tonight, so do come along anytime between 8pm and 10pm for a social game, and Stephen will get things started at 8pm!
MEN’S MORNING – Sunday Mornings
Last Men's tennis morning of 2024 on this Sunday 10am to 12. Do come down and have a hit and a coffee!
UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
The club welcomed Conor Gannon back home last Saturday as he and Conor Niland served up a real treat for our junior members.
Conor (Gannon) is home for a short break, before heading back to Memphis to complete his scholarship in the New Year.
He and Conor Niland very kindly gave of their time to put on a coaching masterclass for our junior members, all in aid of St Vincent de Paul, who benefited from the generosity of our members who donated toys to be distributed locally by the charity.
We offer our sincere thanks to both Conors for providing our juniors with an afternoon that they will never forget and we wish them both well as they begin their preparations for Ireland's next Davis Cup match - away to Saudi Arabia next month.
A huge thank you also to the parents of our junior players for their enormous generosity on the day. Just another example of the fantastic community spirit we have in Monkstown.
