Monkstown LTC Health & Safety

Dear Member

We hope you are all enjoying the return to tennis and this beautiful weather too. We would like to share with you some information in the interests of your Health & Safety while at Monkstown Lawn Tennis Club.

In January 2021 a Health & Safety Committee was formed following on from the great work done by previous committees in this area, and in particular the formation of a Health & Safety Statement by the Ayrton Group as assigned by the Executive.

This report highlighted some Health & Safety concerns which the H&S Committee has been very busy addressing during the earlier part of the year.

You may have noticed the beautiful roses planted alongside court 1 and while they are a great addition and lovely to look at, they have a dual purpose to prevent members falling, in what had been identified as a risk area with drops that could cause injuries.  We would ask members not to step through this rose border and use the steps at all times.

Safety rails will be erected on the wall of the steps leading to court 4, 5 & 6 to help prevent falls onto the concrete drop below, and similarly on the wall leading to courts 2 & 3.

The driveway was also highlighted as a concern in the report, and while it has been closed during Covid for Health & Safety reasons and to help maintain social distancing, further safety issues were identified in the report e.g.

  • Cars reversing from the turning point at the top of the driveway, was recorded as a high risk for children and adults leaving the club grounds and coming into contact with these vehicles.

  • Speed ramps, extra signage and proper line markings are now a requirement, including a restriction on the number of cars permitted to park safely in the driveway.

  • Work on these traffic management matters will commence on 3rd August and we hope to reopen the driveway as soon as these safety improvements are completed.  Further details will be posted on the Health & Safety notice board.

  • We would also remind everyone to avoid parking outside the gates of the club, and to use designated parking spaces on the roadway.

It is a requirement to have a Health & Safety statement for the club, and hence a new notice board to bring to the attention of members and visitors that the club is adhering to good governance and legal requirements regarding this subject.

We thank you for your continued co-operation to keep all safe, and particularly your patience while we get the driveway reopened again for cars.

May you all continue to enjoy your tennis in a safe manner at Monkstown Lawn Tennis Club.

Regards

Margaret Quinn
