Hi Folks!

Another Bank Holiday around the corner....isn't time just flying by...speaking of the Bank Holiday

ALL COACHING SESSIONS, BOTH JUNIOR AND ADULT, WITH GO AHEAD THIS SAT/ SUN and  MON.

Last week the Leinster Tennis AGM was held.  For the fourth year running Monkstown will have a voice on the Leinster Council, with Johnny O'Shea retaining his seat. Johnny leads the Performance Tennis Committee within the Council. Congrats Johnny and we hope you have a successful year.

Exciting times for our two "Sarahs!"... Very best of luck to Sarah (Mc Auley)  who is part of the Irish Hockey Squad currently playing in the European Championships in Amsterdam. Their first match is against The Netherlands on Saturday next.

Sarah (Healy) had a super win in Gothenburg yesterday in the 1500m setting a new personal best of 4:07.78   A wonderful performance after a long spell on the sideline through injury...she is not far off the automatic Olympic qualifying standard of 4:04.20  Very best of luck Sarah in your endeavors to qualify.

Another of our highly talented former Juniors, David Cullen, was welcomed to the Senior training session last night...having just arrived home from the States where he was on a tennis scholarship.  Hard to believe it's four years since he headed off and has now graduated... Congrats David... we're delighted to welcome you back!

Those of us who reside in Monkstown and a little further afield will no doubt be aware of the planning permission that has been granted by an bord pleanala to the Dalguise site on Monkstown road. Justin McCabe is very involved in an attempt to have the permission overturned and quashed, and asks that you click on to the following website  to get further information  www.savemonkstown.ie  It indeed would be a disaster for Monkstown and the surrounding area if these apartment blocks proceed.

I read a fascinating article in the Sunday Times last week which suggested that "For a longer life, it's Game, Set and Match to tennis players!" ...in a survey of Sport for a Longer Life, it showed 9.7 extra years of life for tennis players! ...maybe that explains why we have such an active O/80's membership!!

I can't finish without wishing all our Leaving Cert students the very best of luck for next Wednesday...what a difficult 2 year lead in you've had...but you're a super group and I know you'll achieve the success you're hoping for.

Frank and Ger Kane are just bursting with pride having become Grandparents for the first time.. We send congratulations and much love all the way to Australia to their son (and former member) Owen and his lovely wife Lisa on the birth of their gorgeous daughter,Oliana - Mai - Grace Kane! Granny and Grandad are already counting down the days when they can jet out to see you all!

Last but not least...did you see Fed's match  the other evening at  Rolland Garros?..  He was just poetry in motion..incredible to watch...anyway fingers crossed he keeps it going!

That's it for this week ....enjoy the Bank Holiday and take care.

   Warm regards
