Hi Folks!
Aren't we so lucky that we have cloudless skies and sunshine to help us through these unprecedented times. It certainly helps lift our spirits a little bit while we all try to cope in our own way....some with greater challenges than others.
Your Executive Committee held a meeting via Zoom on Monday last. All in good shape with the tennis club...albeit in an eerie absence of any activity...but they have lots of ideas to welcome you all back when the time eventually comes to unlock those heavy gates!
Very disappointing for our Juniors that lots of Tournaments they were due to play in over Easter have obviously been cancelled...also Stephen will really miss not running his Easter/Fun Camp...but the Summer Camps will be extra special!
Just spare a thought for our members who are away from home at this difficult time...Fergus O'Ruairc and David Cullen who are in the States and Brian Cullen who is in Brussels. Alan O'Mahony is over in Dubai..by the way Alan's brother, and former member Niall, got engaged to his love Kate just before COVID-19 hit...congrats Niall! Our thoughts are also with all members who have relations abroad at this anxious time. Stay safe all of you & we're thinking of you.
Our dear member and friend Colm was laid to rest on Monday last. John Coburn set up a Zoom connection with Colm's brother Eugene in Australia and it gave the Saturday morning - Tuesday morning and Tuesday night crews the opportunity to say a few words about Colm and how their tennis games won't be the same at all without Colm.
Colm's burial was a most moving ceremony with Eric saying the prayers - and what beautiful prayers - at the graveside complete with stunning sunshine. Frank (Kane) read a letter from Colm's brothers Eugene and Tony which made it very personal under the circumstances. Eric then invited those present to say a few words of their memories of Colm...which proved a lovely gesture as all contributed with the odd laugh here and there. To end the ceremony Gary (Crowley) sang Amazing Grace accompanied with his guitar....how moving was that.
Again thanks Eric for conducting such a memorable ceremony.
If any member is in need of anything please do make contact.
Congratulations to our former member (his parents Robin & Anne Marie are Life Members)
Barry Ward on winning a seat in the Senate....Senator Barry Ward - sounds good!
It just leaves me to wish you all a Happy Easter - stay safe and healthy...I miss you all!
Warm regards
Judy
