Snippets 12/11/20

Hi Folks!

Well another year over in the life of Monkstown LTC with the 2020 AGM being held via Zoom last night.   62 Members registered to attend.  Our outgoing President Susie Kennelly opened the meeting with a minutes silence to remember two of our members who passed away this year - Colm Maguire RIP and the very recent Brendan Mc Loughlin RIP. Susie then gave a summary of what has been a very strange year for tennis - although we are one of the lucky sports which was able to be played a lot more than others. She gave great credit to the hard working Committee which were every bit as busy off the court as with the tennis events that were held very successfully - chiefly the Championships & Handicap tournaments...a big Thank You to our Captains Ciaran & Helen who worked so hard in every way to make things happen.

Daithi Roberts as Treasurer gave a comprehensive view of the figures for the year. I will allude to his report in a moment.

Kevin Polley as always did so much work overseeing the upkeep of the courts and Grounds...

Junior Co ordinator Roisin Schwer did trojan work in completing a most  comprehensive document on Child Protection on behalf of the club.

Jacqui McCabe thought she'd be acting as host to the many social events that are held throughout the year - but she found herself taking on the hugely responsible job of COVID officer for the club. Well done Jacqui in keeping us all safe.

Helen Lane was such an efficient Hon Secretary...updating the website on a weekly basis and taking the Minutes of every executive meeting through Zoom with such diligence and always at hand for any query one might have. You all would have received her comprehensive Secretary's report.

Anne Crossan was also thanked for her setting up of a very detailed Database of members and her work on other IT developments.

The Treasurer Daithi Roberts gave an excellent report of the figures for the past year. The club has ended the year in a very healthy position and is in  good hands! Daithi also thanked the Hon Auditor, Ian Dillon, for his professional presentation of the Audit.

Ending her report Susie shared the news that she had proposed "Yours Truly" - seconded by Eleanor O'Mahony - as an Honorary Life Member. There were no objections!!...maybe they were muted like I was at the time! But seriously I am so chuffed to receive this honour... you all know what MLTC means to me - this is the icing on the cake!

The Election of Officers / Committee for 2020 / 2021 was then held.

The following were elected.

Congratulations to all elected members and the very best of luck for the coming year.

A big Thank You to Stephen and all the coaches for their continued support to members who enjoy being coached and to the great progress so many of our Juniors are making.

I must mention our Groundsman Arek who keeps the courts / hedges etc looking pristine. You'll be glad to hear guys that Arek now locks the club every night...no more of those dreaded phone calls from me!!

A copy of the new Club Photo Album was dropped into the office the other day and I must say it looks good...not easy to follow Eric's presentation over so many years!.

It can be viewed on the following link: https://www.monkstownltc.com/2020-photos If anyone would like to purchase prints of the photographs, they can email Mark @ marknewportphotography@gmail.com  and he will sort them directly.

Was having a chat with Michael from Grandstand Sport in Patrick Street the other day and he mentioned a few members had ordered Club Hoodies as Christmas presents.  A nice idea and if you'd like to order one from him do so before 27th November.

I can't finish without alluding to the most beautiful service Eric Cooney officiated at for Brendan last Monday. He captured Brendan in every aspect of his life...all so dignified and moving. Also I've had word from Mary that she and the family were bowled over by the turn out outside the tennis club to honour Brendan as he passed on his final journey. RIP dear Brendan.

That's it for this week....a very good AGM with all the signs of another positive year ahead of us.

 Warm regards

 Judy
