Hi Folks!

Well the club has certainly come alive in the last week...what with the Senior Championships and Junior Championships being played a lovely atmosphere has been created.

It's so exciting to see matches being played from 8 year olds up to 18...and thanks so much to the Mums and Dads - and a few Grannies/Grandads as well! - for supporting the various events and making the competitors feel special. While watching, one thing has stood out for me and that is the wonderful sportsmanship shown to each other...no mean credit to the coaches.

Junior Finals day is next Saturday 21st with four sessions of finals being played starting -  at 11am - 12.30pm - 2pm and 3.30pm. The full schedule will be on the tournament software from tomorrow afternoon. Prize giving will take place after each session of matches.  A message from the Junior catering committee...would the parents of finalists "Bring a Plate"! Thanks a mil!

A big Thank You to Karen (Mac) ably assisted by our Junior Captain Lucy Schwer, for a super week - so well organised...Anne Tweedy also gave a big helping hand re the tournament software.

A great summer - despite all the restrictions - comes to an end next week with Adrienne's Camp Mon/Tues/Wed and Stephen's Thurs /Fri....then school!   A special Reminder here to parents of players from our Covid Officer Siobhan Coburn...Please adhere to social distancing, particularly among teenagers. The Club house is totally out of bounds except for the bathroom - to which only 1 entrant at a time - wearing a mask.  Thank You.

The Club Championships are progressing very well in the evenings with some super, exciting tennis on view. Do drop down and enjoy the atmosphere...well done to Karen and Eoin ably assisted by Anne (T) on your commitment to run a great tournament.

A special message from your Captains' Karen & Eoin...The Championships tournament is progressing well.  Plate matches will be run for 5 events (ie. for players losing a first round match) - Ladies singles and doubles, men's singles and doubles and mixed doubles. We aim to play these matches over the weekend, mostly on Sunday. No further unavailability please as we want to ensure the tournament runs smoothly into the second week. If for any reason you prefer not to be included in the Plate draw, please let us know asap. We're looking at the possibility of adding further events depending on scheduling.

"At Home" - we hope many of you will join us for the reception / prize giving and indoor dining at the Royal Irish Yacht Club on Saturday evening, 28th August. It promises to be a very enjoyable evening and a lovely way to celebrate the end of the championships and a great summer of tennis.  Cheers  Karen & Eoin.

The highlight of the Irish Junior tennis calendar is the Irish Junior Championships -  also known as Junior "Fitz". Yet again Monkstown was well represented, with 4 of our Juniors qualifying..

Under 12 Singles - Rosie Kennedy - Zoe Craig and Anna Hayes..  U/18 Singles Cliona Walsh.

Congrats to you all - no mean achievement to qualify.  Rosie had a super first round win saving 3 match points and then went on to give the No 1 seed a good run for her money.  A super performance and well done to all 3 of you U/12's playing in your first Fitz.  Cliona is seeded No 2 in the U/18 singles and is playing her 1/4 final match as I write this...We  really hope you go all the way Cliona.

Thanks to those members who forfeit their regular game to facilitate the Championships...but do pop down and watch some super tennis!

That's it for this week...keep enjoying whatever you're doing...back to the old routine will be setting in soon!

Warm  regards

  Judy
