Club Notices

Well done again to the Winter League teams last Sunday with the ladies achieving a win for seven out of eight teams and the men having wins in four of the six teams. I gather some of the teams played in miserable conditions!  Hard to believe they will be playing their fourth round this Sunday!

We were informed earlier in the week of the sad passing of Jeremy Chapman who was a former president of MLTC from 1961 – 1968.  We would like to extend our sympathies to his wife Ann, children Ruth and Jeremy and their families. May he rest in peace.

Leinster Matchplays

Monkstown was well represented in Donnybrook U13 Tour 100 last Saturday with 3 of our juniors finishing in the top 4.  Both Zoe Craig and Lydia O’Connor reached the semi-finals while Anna Hayes was narrowly defeated in the finals.  Well done girls!

This Saturday afternoon we welcome the Under 9 Matchplay series to Monkstown. We are pleased to see some of our own young members participate in this event and welcome all competitors to MLTC. Parents and children are welcome down to watch the tennis and let’s hope Storm Eunice or Dudley don’t impact on this event.

Parents – a reminder that there will be no junior coaching this Saturday because of the Matchplays. The Coaching will take place on Saturday 26th February instead.

Subs

There are still subs outstanding which can be paid via Easy Payments. Please contact Anne Crossan in the office if you have any queries regarding the payment method.

Men’s Morning

Sorry gentlemen, there are no courts available this Sunday due to Winter League!  We will have courts available on Sun 27th.

Easter Cup

The Easter cup team also recorded a win in the first week of their league so well done to them!

This Saturday courts 4, 5, and 6 are being used for the Easter Cup so there is limited court availability in the morning.

Ladies Charity League

This league will commence on Monday 28th Feb and all the teams are now listed on the notice board.

Ladies Morning Tennis

A big thank you from the Ladies Committee to everyone who took part in the Ladies Morning Survey.  We had 48 respondents, of whom the majority asked for ladies’ social tennis to continue on Wednesday mornings. We are delighted to confirm that The Spring Social Tennis Mornings will commence on Wednesday 2nd March at 10 am and run for 6 weeks.  Lady members can enjoy a game of tennis, followed by a coffee, cake, and a chat.  All levels are welcome, and it is a great opportunity to meet and play with both familiar and new players!  If you are interested in coming to the Spring Social Tennis Mornings, simply add your name and mobile number to the list which is hanging up on the notice board in the Club House.  Interested participants will be added to a dedicated WhatsApp which will be set up for the Spring Social Tennis Morning and used for communication purposes. If you can’t make it to the Club House to sign up, please contact Anne in the office and she will add your name to the list.

There are 354 lady members in the club, and the Ladies Committee is aware that there are members who, due to work commitments or for other reasons, can’t make Wednesdays but who would like to partake in social tennis events in the club.  Having taken on board the feedback obtained from the survey, the Ladies Committee is looking at organising other tennis events to address this.

Women in Sport

DLR have asked us to mention their Park Run this Saturday 19th February in Cabinteely Park at 9.30am. Sport Ireland are promoting Park Runs across the Country this weekend asking everyone to come along and join in.

Tennis Ireland launched the Equal Advantage Charter to inspire a sport wide commitment in developing a more inclusive culture in all areas within tennis. The objective of this initiative is to enable more women and girls to flourish and maximise their potential at all levels of the sport. We hope to sign up to this charter and would recommend you to click HERE to look at this charter.

Youth Forum – Tennis players (16 to 25 years)

This year Leinster Tennis are working towards setting up a Tennis Youth Forum where young people in the sport can express their views and have a voice on all areas of the sport that pertain to them.  This Forum will help unleash that voice in a safe and valued manner whereby young people can have an impact on the future of tennis in Leinster.

As part of this planning stage, on 3rd March from 6.30pm to 7.30pm they are organising an online planning session with young people. If you are between the age of 16 and 25, if you are passionate about tennis and perhaps have volunteered in your club previously/currently or always wanted to, they would like to invite you to fill in the ‘expression of interest’ form to attend this discussion group.  As this event is online, they are limited in numbers that can attend in order to guarantee they hear everyone’s voice.  Closing date for submission of application to attend is Friday 25th February 2022.

Club Night

Club night tonight will be hosted by Declan Cotter. Do come along if the storms have passed over and we will have Stephen giving some coaching support at the beginning of the evening. We need more volunteers to host a club night – please put your name on the Rota in the function room or contact Isabella Davison.

Have a good week and hopefully the storms will blow over in time for all the tennis events over the weekend.
