MLTC Club Notices 08.09.2022

Hi All!

Tennis 4 Cancer Event – 7.30pm Thursday 22nd of September

Sarah and Isabella are setting the tables once again and invite you to join us for an evening with crime novelist Patricia Gibney.  Patricia’s books have sold over a million copies, and she is best known for her Lottie Parker detective series.  We are honoured to have her join us for a special evening in the club to talk about her work and inspiration.  It is an especially poignant story that her writing career evolved from her husband’s cancer journey.

It’ll be a sophisticated evening, with the tables set with a glass of wine, cheeses and charcuterie to nibble on.  In addition, a number of local artists are kindly donating works of art which will give us a gallery backdrop and will be on sale to further support Tennis 4 Cancer.

Tennis 4 Cancer – a wonderful charity established by our own member Grace Owens.  Their campaigns give funding directly to ARC Cancer Support Centres and the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

Members are welcome to invite friends for this special event.  Places are limited so tickets will sell out quickly – book early on Easy Payments €30pp – and let Sarah know if you have a group that you wish to seat together

Update from Head Coach Stephen

As you are no doubt aware, our own Conor Gannon will travel to Barbados next week as part of the Ireland squad for their Davis Cup World Group II tie with the Caribbean island nation. The match, scheduled for September 16th & 17th, marks Conor's first Davis Cup squad selection and comes at the end of a successful summer for Conor during which he won the Irish Close Championships in Donnybrook. We were delighted to see Conor represent Monkstown in the Summer League in May of this year.

Last month Conor joined the academic and sporting programme at the University of Memphis, Tennessee on a tennis scholarship.

We salute Conor and wish him and the Irish team, led by Conor Niland, every success in Barbados.
