MLTC Club Notices 14th July 2022

Hi All!

Note from Stephen O’Shea, Head Club Coach

I’m delighted to inform you that our leading player, Conor Gannon, won the prestigious Irish Close Championships at Donnybrook on Saturday last.  As many of you know, Conor is currently on a tennis scholarship at the University of Memphis in Tennessee and is back in Ireland for the summer where he has been playing Summer League for Monkstown and is playing some tournaments on the Irish circuit.

He is the first player from the club to win the Irish Close title since Julie Byrne won the ladies singles in 2018.  He joins Julie, Scott Barron and Gina Niland as Monkstown players who have won the tournament.  We are so lucky to have players of that calibre and commitment in our great club.

Conor is a class act both on and off the court.  He is a real inspiration to our many junior members who look at the career that he is carving out and who seek to emulate him.  His dedication, hard work and passion for tennis shines through and it is no surprise to me that he is winning big tournaments such as the Irish Close at this stage.

Thank you to all the Monkstown members who came along to cheer Conor on last Saturday.

 Stephen

Senior Handicaps 2022

Handicaps are off to a flying start with super tennis matches being played every night in the lovely warm evening sun.

Please remember to check your match details on the website every morning as they can change.

Our Barbeque on Saturday 23rd is fast approaching, so be sure to book through Easy Payments. It will be a terrific evening to celebrate the conclusion of the Handicaps tournament season. With these beautiful summer evenings set to continue (yes, the long-range forecast tells us another sunny evening is likely for the 23rd) – we are in for a treat.  The evening will begin with a prosecco reception and prize-giving for the handicaps, followed by a gourmet wood-fired Bbq dinner.  Of course the Bbq is not just for handicap tournament entrants.... so if you’ve missed the handicaps and looking for a social evening with tennis friends -we are looking forward seeing you too.
