TENNIS 4 CANCER EVENT & Raffle This Sunday

Handbags and Gladrags tournament!

The Tournament is now fullysubscribed – thanks so much for your support!

 

We are now focusing on the dress sale and raffle.

 

We would really appreciate it if you could donate pre loved coats, dresses, jackets, handbags and jewellery. Come and have a browse on the day. I hear we have some lovely things already!

You can just drop any gladrags donations into Carol in the office. 

 

Also please support the raffle, there are loads of great prizes - you can Revolut Karen MacKenna  on 087 9337950  -  strip of 5 tickets for €10, (bulk discount 30 tickets for €50), or buy raffle tickets on Easy Payments.

 

 

PARENT & CHILD TOURNAMENT

The very popular Parent & Child Tournament takes place on Monday 3rd June, 12 - 3 pm.  

This is for all children (age 7+)

If a parent can't play, a sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparent - any older family member/friend can take the place of the parent!

Cost is €10 per pairing or €20 limit per family.

 

Please bring a 'Plate' for sharing - sandwiches, crisps, mini bars, buns, bikkies - All gladly accepted! We also need volunteers to man the kitchen during the tournament - please let one of the Junior Committee know via the Junior WhatsApp groups.

MEN’S SUMMER LEAGUE 

Summer league action for the men's teams kicked off last weekend. Team 1 and Team 2 had tough contests away to Fitzwilliam 1 and Claremont Railway 1 respectively. A big thanks to Conor Gannon for playing into team 1 having just returned from the US. Team 3 had a brilliant 5-0 home win again Naas - well done Hugo and crew. Team 4 secured an excellent 2 points against strong opposition from Leixlip 2 - well done Ciaran/ Aaron and team.

 

This week Team 1 play Naas 1 on Friday evening (home) and Greystones 1 on Saturday (home) - no rest for Stephen O'Shea and the folks on team 1!  Team 2 play Templeogue 2 (home), Team 3 play Trim (away), and Team 4 will play Deerpark (away). Best of luck to the team captains and players. As always, many thanks to the subs for their support.

·  Saturday May 18 at 2pm:  Team 1 / Class 1  v Greystones

Men's Coaching

A reminder that coaching for class 4 to class 7 players runs every Monday evening at 9pm. Next session will be on Monday May 20th. All members are welcome. LADIES SUMMER LEAGUE

Ladies league has got off to a great start with 6 out of 8 teams securing a win in week one and the other 2 teams winning points 

Thanks to the many squad players and subs who contributed to this week's success , we couldn't do it without you. 

Keep up the good work and enjoy your tennis  in this lovely weather. 

 

 

Ladies Coaching

Coaching continues every Thursday ,doubles and singles at  7pm  & 8pm  for teams 1 to 4  and for teams 5 to 8 it's Saturday at 11am and 12 noon for doubles and singles .

 

With summer fast approaching Captains Declan and Jacqui would like to remind members of key dates for the club handicaps and championships. 

 

First up is club handicaps from 1st to 13th July followed by the  club championships  commencing on 16th August. 

 

As previously mentioned in order to manage the schedule of matches during the championships ,members must be available to play the first weekend , 16 ,17 & 18th  August for mixed and ladies doubles .

SUMMER CAMPS

Summer Camps for our Juniors are going live on Easy Payments next week- please sign up then. All of the coaches have put a lot of work into revamping the camps.

CLOSING DATE for sign up is Friday the 7th of June.

 

 

 

CHARITY LEAGUE - Finals

Monkstown Non League team came 2nd, losing against Bray on Monday.  They battled bravely in the lashing rain.

As Runners Up they chose The Irish Cancer Society as their charity to donate €600 to.

LADIES MORNING

Angela Corkery is hosting next Wednesday ladies morning so please come down for tennis,

followed by coffee and chats.

 

 

THURSDAY - CLUB NIGHT

Club night  will take place this evening, so pop down any time between 8pm  to 10pm.

Everybody and all standards are very welcome!

 

 

MEN’S MORNING – Sunday Mornings

There are 3 courts booked for Men’s morning this week from 9am to 10am as the Tennis 4 Cancer Event starts at 10am.  

 

 

JUNIOR LEINSTER LEAGUE

Congratulations to our Under 12's Boys, Under 15's Girls & Under 15's Mixed teams who have all reached the finals for their Division of the Junior Leinster League. Finals day takes place this Sunday 19th of May. All matches are away in neutral venues. 

 

U12 Naas

11.30am   Div 2 Boys           Monkstown v Clontarf

 

U15 Malahide

12pm        Div 3 Mixed          Sutton v Monkstown

13.30pm   Div 1 Girls            Monkstown v Shankill

UPDATE FROM STEPHEN     

       Congratulations and best of luck to our U/15 Girls team, U/15 Mixed team - and our U/12 Boys team on reaching the Finals of the Junior League.

 

The Finals are this Sunday - 19th - with the Girls playing Shankill, the mixed playing Sutton - venue Malahide..... and the Boys playing Clontarf - venue Naas.

 they bring the trophies back to Monkstown!

 

A very important event is being held in the Club this coming Sunday with the Tennis 4 Cancer tournament taking place.

The charity was founded by our own Grace Ownes with Conor Niland as Patron.

To date the charity has raised €199,320..a fantastic figure..let's try and break  €200,000!

Catherine Keane and her committee have put in a lot of time and effort into organising the event.  If you can't attend on the day please do buy some raffle tickets -   You can Revolut Karen MacKenna  on 087 9337950  -  strip of 5 tickets for €10, (bulk discount 30 tickets for €50)
