CHEWING GUM

It has been reported that many pieces of chewing gum were seen on court no.6 recently.  Chewing gum will damage the court surface and is not allowed in the club.  Please advise your children of this – Many thanks!

 

 

PARENT & CHILD TOURNAMENT - sign up now

The very popular Parent & Child Tournament takes place on Monday 3rd June, 12 - 3 pm.  

This is for all children (age 7+)

If a parent can't play, a sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparent - any older family member/friend can take the place of the parent!

Cost is €10 per pairing or €20 limit per family.

Please bring a 'Plate' for sharing - sandwiches, crisps, mini bars, buns, bikkies - All gladly accepted! We also need volunteers to man the kitchen during the tournament - please let one of the Junior Committee know via the Junior WhatsApp groups.

Please sign up now on Easy Payments. Entries will close on Friday the 31st of May.

 

 

SUMMER CAMPS - Sign up now

Summer Camps for our Juniors are now live on Easy Payments, so do sign up soon!


Please note, members can bring a friend to these camps.  When bringing a friend the member must book and pay for the friend on Easy Payment (under Bring a Friend)

CLOSING DATE for sign up is Friday the 7th of June.

JUNIOR LEAGUE SUCCESS

Congratulations to the U15's girls who came out as overall winners in the U15 Girls Spring League Division 1  playing Shankill 1 last Sunday.   Fantastic result!

Hard luck to our U12 boys who played brilliantly in the final of Division 2 last Sunday in Naas. It came down to the finest of margins in a tiebreak. Well done on getting to the final boys.

U12 Boys Team:  Charlie Carney & Richie Kennedy,  Harry Craig & Darragh O’Sullivan, Sam Carney & Toby Sheridan.

 

 

Well done and congratulations to all of our juniors at U12, U15 & U18 who have represented themselves, their families and the club so well over the past number of weeks while competing in the Spring League.

 

Finally good luck to some of our juniors who are representing their schools today in the Primary Schools Tennis League Finals in Greystones.

TENNIS 4 CANCER EVENT

We are delighted to report that the Tennis 4 Cancer ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ tournament managed to raise a whopping  €6,300 !

This will be shared equally between the charities ARC (Cancer Support Centres)  and National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

 

Many, many thanks to All who donated prizes, those who donated items for the sale, those who signed up for the tennis and lunch,  those who bought raffle tickets, those who bought items, and of course those who helped out on the day!

 

 

LADIES SUMMER LEAGUE

Summer league continues to do very well with 6 out of 8 teams winning their second round matches.  Well done to everyone involved and thanks to the many squad players and subs who contributed this week.

Another 3 matches to go in the group stages so everything to go for! 

For everyone involved in summer league , coaching continues on Thursday for teams 1 to 4  from 7 pm to 9pm for doubles and singles and Saturday 11 to 12 for teams 5 to 8 .

 

 

Next week Captains Declan and Jacqui will launch details of the annual MLTC Senior Handicap tournament which starts on Monday 1st July .

UPDATE FROM THE MEN’S CAPTAIN:   Men's Summer League 

The last week was a super busy period for the men's league teams. Team 1 (class 1) played twice last weekend picking up two valuable points against Naas and a great 3-2 win against Greystones. Super tennis from Fergus O'Rourke, Scott Barron, and the other players on team 1.  Team 2 (class 2) also enjoyed a great 3-2 home win against Templeogue – well done team captain Harry and all on team 2. Team 3 (class 4) travelled to Trim on Friday last and came away 4-1 winners on the night – kudos to Jack Stokes for a super three set win in his singles 1 match (finishing at 11pm!). Finally, team 4 (class 6) also had a great away win (4-1) last Saturday against Deerpark – well done team captains Ciaran and Aaron and the team 4 players. 

 

This weekend Team 1 will play Glenageary 1 at home (Friday) and Malahide 1 (away) – no rest for Stephen O'Shea and the folks on team 1! Team 2 is away to Clontarf. Team 3 has a rest this weekend, and team 4 will travel to Ashbrook.

·  Friday May 24 at 7pm:       Team 1 / Class 1  v Glenageary 1

MEN’S COACHING

A reminder that coaching for class 4 to class 7 players runs every Monday evening at 9pm. Next session will be on Monday May 27th. All members are welcome. Here is a taste of the action from last week (see attached).

LADIES MORNING

Evelyn Ging is hosting next Wednesday ladies morning  so please come down for tennis, followed by coffee and chats.

Club night  will take place this evening, so pop down any time between 8pm  to 10pm.

Stephen will be in attendance to get the evening started - Everybody and all standards are very welcome!

 

 

MEN’S MORNING – Sunday Mornings

Men’s morning back to normal this week from 10am to 12.   Do come down for a hit and a cuppa and chat after!

 

UPDATE FROM STEPHEN     

Last weekend was a great weekend on the tennis court for Monkstown players...

both Senior and Junior.

 

Conor (Gannon) and Julie (Byrne) were selected to play for Fitzwilliam in the annual match versus The All England Club..this year played in Fitz, last Saturday.

The standard of tennis was of the highest order. Conor & Julie each played 3 matches and they both pulled off a hat trick by winning all 3 matches ...a super achievement.

Huge congrats to you both. Conor has headed off on the tour this week and plays a tournament in Croatia.  Very best of luck Conor!

 

Our future Conors & Julies were doing their bit in the Finals of the Leinster League.

 

Our U/15 Girls team had a super win in Division1, beating Shankill 3/0..Big Congrats to Rosie & Robyn Kennedy who played singles and Anna Hayes & Zoe Craig who played doubles...a brilliant result!

 

Our U/12 Boys team battled valiantly against a very strong Clontarf team. With the match poised at 1 all, they were just pipped in the deciding match 3rd set tiebreak 9/11.

Super performances all round from Richie Kennedy & Charlie Carney  -  Harry Craig & Darragh O'Sullivan  -  Toby Sheridan & Sam Carney.

It was noted the great sportsmanship all the boys showed despite their loss.

Well done lads!

A few of our even younger members are playing in tournaments from Dublin to Mullingar!  Last Saturday Mia Keogh - Luke O'Callaghan Luke Sadlier & Charlie Carney headed to Mullingar....and next weekend Michael Carney - Tom Langford - Daniel Carney & Emma Niland compete in the Red, Orange, & Green Ball Leinster Tour Part 37.   Best of luck to all ..great to see you competing in these events.

 

Good luck to all our League Teams...only at the halfway stage so plenty of time to feature in the Playoffs!
