UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
The Junior Championships are well underway. Interesting to watch so many kids from U/10 - U/18 showing their skills this week...the standard is so good - with a great competitive edge to each match! But best of all the sportsmanship shown has also been of a very high standard. Finals Day on Saturday should be a lovely family day to end off what has been a mixed summer weatherwise - but always good in MLTC! Thanks to Karen, ably assisted by Lucy, for the smooth running of the tournament.
Monkstown featured very well at the Junior Open played in Donnybrook last week.
Rosie Kennedy won the U/14 Singles title along with the Mixed title.... partnered with Andrew Schwer. Robyn won the U/12 singles title along with the doubles title.
The matches were of a very high standard. Well done all round - a super achievement!
Fitzwilliam is the venue this week for the biggie.... The Junior Lawn Tennis Championships of Ireland....a 2000 event. Congrats to those who qualified... a great experience to get to play in this prestigious event.
Today, Robyn is playing the Semi Final of the U/12 singles....and the 1/4 Final of the mixed. She has already won her way to the Final of the doubles...what a tournament you're having Robyn!
Rosie plays the 1/4 Final of the U/14 doubles....she had reached the 1/4 Final of the mixed with Andrew Schwer - but unfortunately for Andrew he got injured during his Singles match & had to pull out of all 3 events...very tough luck.
Very best of luck to Robyn & Rosie as they attempt to make further progress.
If you're in the area you should pop in to Fitz.. the standard of tennis is so high it's well worth a visit.
The Senior Championships are progressing nicely with another week to go before Finals day.
Finally,we all send our very best wishes to Sarah Healy, as she competes in the World Athletic Championships starting on Saturday next in Budapest.
See you around the club.....or in Fitz! Stephen.
