LADIES SUMMER LEAGUE
Despite highly competitive matches with a very high level of tennis ,our first team narrowly missed making it through to the final of class 2 summer league against a very strong Mount Pleasant team
Congratulations to our first team for reaching the semi-finals of class 2 and a huge thank you to the many supporters from Monkstown who came to support.
Summer league has now reached its conclusion and overall the league has been successful for the club and we appear to be moving in a positive direction with regard to the level of tennis being played.
Having entered 8 teams ,5 teams made it to playoffs,3 reached the quarter final and one the semi final.Delighted to report team 6 captained by Lorraine Ryan achieved a promotion to class 5 .
6 of our teams stayed in class with only one team moving down a class.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all the team captains who managed their teams, some in challenging circumstances: Nicky Kinsella, Jana Langford, Pauline Phelan, Catherine Keane, Clodagh Murray, Lorraine Ryan, Siobhan Coburn and Elaine O'Toole. You have all played a superb role in managing your teams and helping me as captain, some for the first time.
We also need to recognise the contribution of the many squad players and subs who contributed to the success of the teams. This could not be done without you all
Finally the selection committee of Adrienne, Aoife Stokes, Colette, Helen and Stephen who were all on hand offering advice and support .
We go again in September for the senior league!!!

UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
Great excitement last Sunday for our 5 Mile League Team. They defeated Shankill in a nerve wracking Final. With the tie level at 1 all, the deciding doubles was won on a 3rd set tie break.
Congrats Genevieve (c), Carol, Elaine, Sinead, Semin and Evana - a super team effort!
Very tough luck to our Ladies 1st (Cl 2) Summer League team who were pipped in the semis v Mt Pleasant the other evening and were thus denied promotion to class 1 by the narrowest of margins.
On the Junior front, big Congrats to Rosie Kennedy who won the U/14 Singles title at the Carrickmines Junior 1000 Open last weekend.
This week Lansdowne is the venue where the Junior Open tour 500 is being played. Again well done to our many Juniors who entered...and to Darragh O'Sullivan who reached the 1/4 finals of the u/12 singles.
Mary O'Callaghan & Zoe Craig both play their 1/4 final (U/16) singles matches today ...Good Luck girls!
Brilliant news for Conor (Niland) where his book, "The Racket", stands at No 1 in the Bestsellers non fiction category. Super achievement, Conor.
What an emotional, proud day it was for Tom and Paula Crotty last Tuesday.
U.C.D School of Nursing Midwifery and Health Systems honoured our much lamented Jennifer with a posthumous degree of BSc (General) Nursing.
The following is a quote from the letter received by Tom and Paula..
"This recognition reflects Jennifer's commitment to her study and the lasting impact she had within our community. Jennifer exemplified dedication and integrity throughout her studies in UCD. We offer a fitting acknowledgement of Jennifer's memorable journey and achievements with us"
I can only imagine your feelings, Tom and Paula, as you accepted Jennifer's degree in the O'Reilly Hall last Tuesday.
Comhghairdeachas Jen Ben - coladh sabh.
