SENIOR Newsletter  1st CHAMPIONSHIPS 16th to 31st August

 SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 16th to 31st August 🏆

Captains Declan & Jacqui are delighted to announce that we have a record entry for the club championships 2024.

We have 200 individual members participating with over 350 singles and doubles entries, an increase of 25% on last year.

Thank you to everyone who is participating 👏

We intend to make this a great club championship 💪

This is a large and challenging tournament to run in a club of our size over a 2 week period but we will make it work with your support, co-operation, availability and patience.

Tournament software is open until 6pm this evening for you to confirm your 2 unavailabilities ( if required ) over the course of the tournament.

This is essential in order to plan and schedule 340 matches in this 2 week period.

This is a huge tournament and unlike the handicaps we cannot facilitate ad hoc unavailability changes.  We request your co-operation in playing to the schedule as published and which is based on your entry availability details.

Requests for unavailable days will be void once the tournament goes live - a necessity when managing a large tournament of 300+ matches.

We thank you for your co-operation and understanding!

Matches will begin at 6pm each evening.  If this is a challenge please advise us now 🙏 and we will schedule your match times accordingly.

As previously advised we will launch the championships with a full schedule on Friday 16th August from 6pm with the focus on ladies and mixed doubles the biggest draws .

It is our intention to publish on Wednesday 14th August the match schedule for Friday 16th August.

We are delighted to see such a large entry and we appreciate your support and co-operation in making this a great championship!

We are looking forward to seeing you  🎾

UPDATE  FROM  STEPHEN

Exciting to see our own Conor Gannon in the Irish Open - an ITF World Tour event - being held in Carrickmines this week.  After the completion of the 1st round, Conor is  only one of 2 Irish players still standing in the singles event.

He plays the No 1 seed from Poland in the 1/4 final at 12.30 today... hopefully there'll be a band of Monkstown supporters cheering him on!

He has a doubles match against a GB / Luxembourg combination @ 5 this evening.    Very best of luck Conor......we're all rooting for you!

Malahide was the venue for the Junior Open this week with Mary O'Callaghan - Rosie & Richie Kennedy still involved - Mary is playing in the U/16 1/4 Final today & Richie in the U/12 1/4 Final later today.

Rosie has reached the semis of the U/14 & plays tomorrow.

Best of luck to you all!

Donnybrook - a little bit nearer to home! - is the venue next week with no less than 15 of our juniors entered.

"Best of luck" Daniel, Sam, Sean, Harry, Zoe, Rosie, Robyn, Richie, Milo, Annalie, Layla Darragh, Isabella, Mary & Luke!

Just to finish by saying how immensely proud we should all be of Sarah Healy.  To be pipped as she was in her heat and repechage race was just heartbeaking for her in what was such a high class field. The immense experience she gained in what has been an amazing Olympics will stand her in good stead for LA in 4 years time...she is still so young & a super athlete.

 Cheers    Stephen
