Hi Folks!

What a super 2 weeks of tennis we had for the Championships..coupled with some beautiful weather!  Last Saturday was a real showcase of the high standard of tennis we're at here in Monkstown. Well done to Karen and Eoin, assisted by Anne, on completing such a successful Championship. Thanks to Caroline and Sonya for organising some lovely goodies throughout Saturday afternoon.

Congratulations to our Champions...

Mens Champion:    Scott Barron

Ladies Champion:   Kate Grennan

Mens Doubles:        Scott & Michael Barron

Ladies Doubles:      Kate Grennan & Julie Ryan

Mixed Doubles:       Kevin Wylde & Kate Grennan

As you can see Kate Grennan achieved the treble!...Well done Kate  - you played some super tennis throughout the fortnight...and to your partners Julie and Kevin!

Scott is our new Mens champion...some powerful tennis on view from him...very proud to have such a respected name in Irish tennis on the trophy. Exciting to see Scott andMichael combine to play some special doubles matches...well done Michael...you helped in no small way to carry the old man over the line in your doubles!!

On to the "At Home" in the Royal Irish Yacht Club where the Prize Giving took place, outdoor, at a reception prior to dinner.  A special Honours Board was unveiled in honour of our four Olympians, Scott Barron (tennis) - Laoise Kenny (Special Winter Olympics) - Sarah McAuley (hockey) and Sarah Healy (athletics)  Unfortunately the two Sarahs were unable to attend.  Scott made a brilliant speech outlining what an absolute honour it is to become an Olympian.  Laoise was standing beside him bursting with pride with that lovely smile she always wears! Congrats all round...not many clubs can boast four Olympians!

Another special presentation which was made, was a cheque for the donations from members made during both the Senior and Junior Championship / Handicaps to Tennis4Cancer, a very popular charity founded by our own Grace Owens.  Grace was on hand to receive the cheque and also said a few special words of appreciation...by the way Grace and Michael's daughter - and former member - Nessa is today marrying her beau Philip...such a gorgeous couple- wishing you both a life full of love and happiness!

After the presentations it was time for dinner....many thanks to Caroline and Sonya for organising  everything to perfection re Covid etc.  A great night was had by all.

No rest for Karen and Eoin!  Winter League is just around the corner...and the Ladies have created some headache for Karen and her selection Committee with a massive response to play!  Unfortunately, we can only enter a certain number of teams - because of court availability - but hopefully even if you're named as a sub you should definitely get a game.  Eoin has a slightly smaller list to work off!

JUNIORS:  Booking for the new Coaching term opened at 12 noon....and by jove is there an interest in signing up!  Don't worry if you didn't get registered for your chosen group - there will be a slot for everyone.  It'll take a couple of days to check all the booking etc so don't worry - no one has ever been refused!

Andrea has just popped into the office with the exciting news that the popular Stars & Stripes (Boys / Girls)  inter club league is up and running again, commencing on Saturday 18th Sept.  The age group for this particular league is U/12  (ie U/12 on 1st Jan 2021) - minimum age 10 years...matches are played 5/6 pm on Saturdays.  If you're interested in your child being on the list for selection please email me here to the office with the following details.... Name  -  Age  -  Contact Number.  Deadline for signup is Thursday next 9th September.

It only leaves me to say a big 'Thank You' to everyone  who worked to make the summer such a success in the Tennis Club - despite any restrictions we had to adhere to, I really think both Juniors and Seniors enjoyed any time they spent in the club...we've a very special set up!

 Warm  regards
