Hi Folks!

Well summer is becoming but a memory with the old routine of school etc setting in again...but with it comes a welcome back to Ladies Morning - Men’s Morning and Club Night....along with the DLTC Winter League  -  the first League in almost 2 years!

 A message from the Captains:

Thanks to all those who signed up for Winter League. The teams have been finalised and are on the Notice Board. Thanks to the sub committees in selecting the teams, to the team Captains for agreeing to manage their teams and to all those who signed up as subs. Please note the DLTC protocols in place for the league (on the notice board).

League matches start this Sunday - Men’s in the morning and Ladies in the afternoon. Come and support home matches if you're in the area.  Wishing all teams the very best of luck!

With the start of the Autumn season and the relaxation of covid restrictions, we're delighted to welcome back Ladies Wednesday Morning tennis- Men’s Sunday mornings (working around Winter league) and Thursday evening social tennis from next week.  Certain Covid protocols in terms of use of the clubhouse and refreshments will stay in place until 22nd October.

Thanks  Eoin & Karen

A few words of welcome from Isabella  (Davison) re Ladies Morning...."The Ladies Committee are back in action and inviting all women of the club to join us for social tennis on Wednesday mornings from 10am.  More than ever we value meeting and enjoying the company of friends - old and new. Players of all standards are warmly welcomed. We start this coming Wednesday, 15th September @ 10am.

As the Captains mentioned, Men’s morning will be slightly restricted because of the Men’s League matches...but hopefully if you can get down for 9am you should be able to book 3 courts til 11am, when at a glance at the fixtures, there seems to be 2 matches each week @ 11.

The Coaching programme for the next term is very heavily booked...if your child is on a waiting list, we will let you know tomorrow as to any availability. Also if you're a mum  sending an email re a family member  would you please mention the Family name...so many Ladies keep their maiden name...particularly on emails!

We salute Rachel Hartnett who was a member of the Dublin squad who competed so well in last weekend's fantastic Ladies All Ireland Football Final against the eventual winners Meath at Croke Park. Rachel, who won the U21 Singles at our recent Club Championships, has been making great strides in GAA in recent years and is certainly destined for great things with Cuala and Dublin in the years to come. Well done Rachel!

Another achievement by a Monkstown member...Johnny O'Shea has been appointed to the Tennis Ireland National Competitions Committee. The Committee is tasked with promoting high performance competitions in Ireland (Interpros, ITF and Tennis Europe tournaments) and managing the Tennis Ireland Senior and Junior tournament calendars. Congrats Johnny!

Just a reminder re the distribution of Floodlight cards from Hewetts Newsagents in Monkstown Village and the office that only  TWO CARDS per person may be obtained and as Juniors do not play at night, Juniors may not get any.  I must thank David & Thelma Hewett for their continued support in allowing us to use their shop as a distribution venue.

There is a feast of "Music in Monkstown" this Friday - Saturday & Sunday. There will be both outdoor and indoor (Monkstown Parish Church) events....outdoor is Free with tickets available at the door of the church for the indoor events.  Sounds like a classy weekend of music in the beautiful Village of Monkstown.   Full details on www.musicinmonkstown.ie

That's it for this week....enjoy the nice spell of weather we're getting and get the racquets out for the return of the various social tennis outings!
