Hi Folks!

Exciting news on the International front.  Congratulations to our own Lisa (O'Shea) and Gina (Niland) who have been selected to play on the Potter Cup team...with Lisa being given the added honour of being named Team Captain.  The Potter Cup is run by the International Club, a global organisation that operates events for players who have represented their country at Junior, Senior or Veteran level.  The Cup is one of the preeminent events in team competition in Senior tennis, drawing many former pros and top veterans from around the world.  In 2019, the Irish Men's team stunned the field by winning the competition. Monkstown's Scott Barron played a key role in this victory.  Let's hope Lisa, Gina and the Irish Ladies team can stun the field this year!  The event takes place in Barcelona from 21st - 24th October.  Very best of luck Lisa and Gina....we're all very proud of you here in Monkstown LTC!

Congrats to our four Ladies Teams and one Men's team who have qualified for the Playoffs of the Winter League.  The Ladies 2nd / 3rd and 4th teams play their 1st round playoff matches this Sunday...2nd team v St. Mary's At Home, with the 3rd team Away to Lansdowne 2nds and the 4th team Away to Donabate 1st...all matches @ 2pm.  The 1st team (v Shankill 1st At Home) don't play til the 1/4 Finals on Sunday 31st Oct.  The Men’s 3rd team play this Sunday 17th  v Glenalbyn 1st @ 11am  Away.  Very best of luck to all teams...supporters welcome!

Thanks to the Men’s Morning on Sundays for giving up their courts throughout the league... back to old times this Sunday guys!

A message from our Lady Captain...."Ladies Doubles Box competition:  There was a great response to this competition, resulting in 85 Ladies playing in 10 boxes of 8 or 9 players. There are lots of matches to be played between now and early December! There will be a small prize for the winner of each box. Thanks to all the Ladies who entered we're able to make a donation to charity. The charity chosen is CRY (cardiac risk in the young).  This is a charity close to the hearts of our members Breege and Mick Clancy and a charity Monkstown tennis club has been very supportive of over the past couple of years. Like all charities it will have suffered during the pandemic, so we're delighted to be in a position to make this donation, while at the same time enjoying a variety of competitive doubles games in a friendly environment."   Thanks...Karen.

Ladies Halloween Tournament...."The Ladies Committee has asked me to remind you that there are only a few days to go to sign up for the Halloween tournament - closing date, Monday next 18th Oct.   The sign up sheet is up on the board opposite the clubhouse door. If you're unable to make it to the club to put your name down, feel free to message either Isabella, Genevieve or Collette. They look forward to seeing many of you on Wed 20th!"

Club Night:  Club Night tonight will be hosted by Daithi (Roberts) - Stephen will again be on hand to help you perfect your game....I guess the host will be on court for the hour!  Club Night is becoming a very popular weekly event, so do pop down.

JUNIORS:  There are a couple of slots still available for the Halloween Tennis Camp (Tues 26th - Fri 29th Oct.)  You can book through Easy Payments.

Sarah McAuley heads off next week with the Irish Hockey team to the Ladies World Cup qualifying tournament being held in Pisa, Italy. The Irish team's first match is v France on Thursday next, 21st October. Very best of luck Sarah as you continue your great run on the Irish team!

That's it for this week....take care and good luck to the League teams!

By the way the driveway will be closed to cars for a couple of hours tomorrow due to hedge cutting equipment etc

Warm regards
