Snippets 22/07/21

Hi Folks!

The obvious opening comment is about this amazing hot spell we're having!  How lucky are you guys who are on holiday - although the atmosphere everywhere you go is one of relaxation and celebration!

A message from your Captains, ..once again a super week of sunshine for our senior handicaps. Lots of hotly contested three set matches as players aspire to a match opportunity on Finals Day!  Come and watch some of the semi final matches tomorrow evening and enjoy a few beers.

Finals Day is on Saturday, with matches at 12.30 and 2.30. Bring a picnic and create some atmosphere and support for the players.    Cold drinks will be supplied.  A photographer will be roaming the grounds, so make sure to look your summer best!

For those of you signed up for the BBQ, we plan to start the evening with a glass of Prosecco at 7.30.  Food will be served from 8pm with prize giving to follow.  We're looking forward to welcoming you for a relaxed and social evening in our lovely club grounds.

We're delighted to support Grace Owens' tennis4cancer charity. We appeal to everyone to bring along a donation on finals day so we can contribute as a club to the great work Grace continues to do.   Thanks.  Eoin and Karen.

The 2020 Mens Class 2 Winter League Final will be played v Naas in Naas next Sunday 25th @ 12noon.  Very best of luck  Scott / Mickeymac  -  Stephen / George - Johnny / Kevin (W)  The team has already won promotion to Class 1, but make the long wait worthwhile lads and come home with the trophy!

Thanks to those members who missed their regular game during the Handicaps...all back to normal from next Monday.

The Juniors continue to bake during the day, both at the Camps and playing social tennis!    Thanks to Stephen for the Camps and Adrienne for organising the social tennis.

Parents of children registered for next week's Camp please remember to submit a Covid form prior to Monday..also the obvious to bring  liquids & a snack.  Thanks a mil!

The Health and Safety Committee, chaired by Margaret Quinn, have met at various times since it was formed in January 2021.     They are anxious to update members on their findings and progress. An email will be circulated next Monday to advise all members.

There's been a great reaction to Stephen's chat with Pat Cash...if you haven't viewed it you're missing something!

There's only one subject to end this Snippets on...our not 1, but 2 Olympians!

We're all bursting with excitement for you both - Sarah (McAuley) Team Ireland Hockey and Sarah (Healy) Athletics 1500m.   Despite all the restrictions, nothing can take away from the incredible feat of qualifying for what is the world showcase for athletes. Can't wait to watch the opening ceremony tomorrow - 12 noon.  Sarah (McA) starts her campaign with a match against South Africa on Saturday @ 1.15pm.  Our other Sarah doesn't start her heats until the second week.

Stay safe  girls, wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy this incredible honour. You're following in the footsteps of fellow members Scott Barron, who represented Ireland at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and Laoise Kenny who represented Ireland at the Special Winter Olympics in Austria in 2017....both of whom still talk passionately of their experience.

That's it for this week.....stay safe and enjoy indoor dining next week....but who'd want to be indoors!!

Warm   regards

     Judy
