Hi Folks!
Not easy to sound optimistic...but here goes! I'm really convinced that we'll see our lovely club open in early April. Tennis Ireland is working closely with a range of non-contact sports such as rowing, cycling, canoeing, sailing, athletics and golf to coordinate efforts with Sport Ireland and Government to allow our sport to open as soon as possible. They are also engaging with Sport NI to get an update on the status of the restrictions in Northern Ireland. The Taoiseach did outline that should there be an improvement in the situation, the Government will examine the possibility of easing restrictions on outdoor gatherings and certain sporting activities in advance of the 5th of April...so keep those fingers crossed...the light at the end of the tunnel is definitely getting brighter!
Well done to the 72 participants in the fitness challenge...I'm told there are a few sore feet but the usual Monkstown team spirit and competitiveness is keeping everyone motivated. Would you believe there are team members in their 30's / 40's / 50's / 60's/ 70/'s and an incredible few in their 80's! Best of luck for the remaining 2 weeks.
Leaderboard after 2 weeks:
Federer (but of course!): 1,905
Seles: 1,619.7
Williams: 1,616.83
Agassi: 1,593
Graf: 1,395.2
Murray: 1,241
The best individual score this week is 122.56 from Claire Aherne...between herself and Mark they clocked up over 200 km this week.....how romantic!!
I hope all the kiddies who are due to go back to school next week have fun...along with their parents!
That's it for this week....enjoy the sunshine - keep fit and healthy and mind each other.
Warm regards
Judy
