What a great 2 weeks of competitive tennis we had for the Handicap Tournament, culminating with a super BBQ on Saturday night last.  Well done to Helen & Ciaran on the tennis front (ably assisted by Anne Tweedy!) and Jacqui Mc Cabe for organising the social end of things with a Prosecco reception followed by the BBQ.  As always Colin Byrne and his crew produced delicious steaks!   Congrats to the following winners....after very hard fought matches I might add..... with 3 of the 6 Finals going to 3 sets!

  • Mens Singles:  Peter Shaw.

  • Ladies Singles: Lisa Blake

  • Mens Doubles: Conor Blake & Andrew O'Kelly

  • Ladies Doubles: Eleanor O'Mahony & Karen Geraghty (nice to see Alan flew in from Dubai to watch his mum & Karen win a nailbiting match!!)

  • Mixed Doubles: Andrew O'Kelly & Isabella Davison

  • Mixed Doubles (Plate) Justin McCabe & Lynda O'Carroll

Now for the Club Championships!...Fri 14th  -  Sat  29th August.  A newsletter from Helen & Ciaran will be on the Website tomorrow evening with all the details for the Championships. Please read carefully and remember the deadline for entries is Friday 7th August. It should be another interesting 2 weeks of tennis - so make sure you're part of it!

The future of the club - our Juniors! - had their Championships this week. Great to see so many Mums, Dads and even Grandparents supporting them. Finals Day is tomorrow with the first set of matches scheduled for 11am . Well done to Adrienne and Anna Schwer for the smooth running of the Tournament.

Don't forget the remaining Tennis Camps:

  • Tues 4th - Fri 7th Aug

  • Mon  10th - Fri 14th Aug

  • Mon 24th - Fri 28th Aug

Our super Groundsman Arek had a little mishap in his car the other day....thankfully he was uninjured but his car is a write off. It has been suggested by the Committee that anyone who would like to contribute - anonymously -  towards the cost of a replacement car for him, could drop an envelope into me here in the office.within the next week.... it would be a nice way to show our appreciation for the hard work he puts in to keep our club looking so well.  Many thanks.

Our own Anne Crossan found it very hard to sever her links with Monkstown LTC...having contributed so much to the club over the years - particularly her commitment to our Juniors - she has come back using her IT skills and set up a Club Database. If anyone has any adjustments to make to the details we have, please let me know. Thanks so much Anne for giving of your time & expertise.

That's it for this week...have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend!
