Tennis4Cancer charity event – Thursday October 13th at 7.30pm
We are looking very much forward to a social evening next week. The tables will be beautifully set in the club house again with delicious cheese and charcuterie plates and fine wine, and we will hear from guest speaker Patricia Gibney - a bestselling author of crime novels. This might appeal to friends outside of MLTC, who would be welcome to join you to this charity event. Ladies League Team Updates
Senior League – 5 Teams Through to Playoffs
We had strong performances from all our 8 teams in Senior League, with a particularly good finish to our league campaign last Sunday with wins for 7 of our 8 teams.
We have 5 teams through to Playoffs, starting this Sunday 9th October
Monkstown 8th Team (Class 6) will be Away to Laytown/Bettystown 3rd team on Sunday at 2pm. Congrats to team captain Caroline Berwick and all the players.
Monkstown 7th Team (Class 5) will be Away to Donabate/Portrane 2nd team on Sunday at 2pm. Congrats to team captain Siobhain Carney and all the players.
Monkstown 4th Team (Class 4) will be At Home to Naas 5th team on Sunday at 2pm. Congrats to team captain Sonya Mahood and all the players.
Monkstown 3rd Team (Class 3) will be away to Shankill 1st team on Sunday at 2pm. Congrats to team captain Rachael Mullett and all the players.
Monkstown 1st Team (Class 1), have a bye this weekend and will be playing the Class 1 Semi-Final on Sunday 16th Away to Sutton 1. Congrats to team captain Geraldine Colgan and all the players.
Floodlight League
Monkstown have entered 4 ladies’ teams in floodlight league, with matches played on Tuesday evenings. With the first two weeks played, we have had mixed results so far, with some of our teams getting some strong results, but other teams meeting very strong opposition. I know that Men’s floodlight on Monday evenings, and ladies on Tuesday evenings are impacting weekly games for many members. We are very appreciative of your patience. Just a few more weeks.
Monday Evening League Coaching – Re-Scheduled
There will be no League Coaching this Monday 10th October, due to Men’s Floodlight. This session will be re-scheduled to the following Monday 17th.

Ladies Morning Tennis and Charity League
A great start to the charity league this week with all of our teams getting points on the board. Good luck for next week’s matches.
Thanks to those who have offered to volunteer to host the ladies morning. It can only function with a few volunteers every so often so all hands appreciated. We had a lovely morning last Wednesday with the ladies enjoying a very sociable game so do come along next Wednesday from 10am.
Update from Club Coach Stephen
The 2022 Senior League campaign has reached the Play Off stages after a five week run of group matches. The twelve teams representing Monkstown across the Men's and Ladies Senior League competition did so with great determination and no little skill.
Seven teams have qualified for the Play - Offs by finishing as either winner or runner up in their groups. All of the five remaining teams maintained their status in their respective classes. That is a wonderful achievement by all concerned.
The summary of our teams' performances in the 2022 DLTC Senior League is as follows:
Ladies O35:
* First Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Semi-Final on 16th October) - Class 1
* Second Team: Maintained their status - Class 2
* Third Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Rd. 1 on 9th October) - Class 3
* Fourth Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Rd.1 on 9th October) - Class 4
* Fifth Team: Maintained their status - Class 4
* Sixth Team: Maintained their status - Class 5
* Seventh Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Rd.1 on 9th October) - Class 5
* Eighth Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Rd. 1 on 9th October) - Class 6
Men's O35:
* First Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Semi Final on 16th October) - Class 1
* Second Team: Qualified for the Play-Offs (Rd 1 on 9th October) - Class 3
Men's O45:
* First Team: Maintained their status - Class 2
Men's O55:
* First Team: Maintained their status - Class 2
This set of performances comes on the back of very strong showings by the club during the Summer League season. I want to thank the two Club Captains, Clodagh and Craig, for their ongoing commitment to the League squads and to commend all of the players for their effort and commitment to the Club and for attending the various coaching sessions which I hope have helped to prepare them for the rigours of League tennis.
We will do our very best to deliver some more silverware to Monkstown in the weeks ahead!
More exciting news for three Monkstown players as they represent Ireland in the Potter Cup, to be played in Barcelona from 20th - 22nd October. Lisa O'Shea will captain the Women's Team, while Scott Barron and Mickeymac will play on the Men's Team - a Team that won this prestigious event in 2019.
