Club Notices

This week sees the start of Summer League and we are delighted to be seeing all the teams back on court after an absence of two years although members need to be aware it will have some impact on regular court availability!

This week I wanted to remember especially one of our lovely lady members Máire Pollock who sadly passed away last week and who will be missed by so many of her lady tennis friends in MLTC.  Máire was in every way a lady, someone who as her brother said at her funeral mass, always put herself before others.  Máire had great style and wore the most beautiful colours and ensembles so gracefully.  I remember the year we won the Ladies Turkey Tournament together and she was delighted, often reminding me of our win!  Our sympathies to Máire’s family at this sad time.  May she rest in peace.

I also wanted to advise members that there will be a memorial for Colm Maguire in the club on Saturday 14th May commencing at 12 noon. His brothers, who could not attend his funeral in March 2020 due to covid, have travelled to Ireland and would like to remember him and celebrate his life along with all his tennis friends.

Summer League

The summer league will commence on 6th May – so members need to be aware that there will be restricted court bookings in the evenings and at the weekends for the 5 weeks of the league. Keep an eye on club manager so you know what times the courts will be available.

Men’s Morning

Courts 4, 5, and 6 will be available this Sunday from 10am  - 12 noon.

Ladies Tennis

Charity League

Well done to Anthea Lydon and her team Caroline Berwick, Fiona O'Sullivan, Karen Geraghty, Sarah Robson and Fiona Galvin - they have got through to the semi-final of the Advanced League and are playing St. Mary's at home this Tuesday 9th May. The match kicks off at 10am - best of luck, ladies!

Both the Monday Charity League teams 1 and 2, each were just one point away from getting through to the semi-finals in each of their sections in the Monday Charity League - so close ladies, but a great result all the same - you did your Club proud!

5 Mile League

The ever-popular 5-Mile League kicks off on Sunday, May 15th at 7pm, and is a tennis league that is open to Class 7 players and below. Sign-up sheets are up in the Club House. If you can't make it to the clubhouse to sign up please contact one of the Ladies Committee members who will be happy to add your name to the list!

Ladies Social Tennis

Ladies' Social Tennis is back for the next couple of Wednesdays, with the last date on Wednesday, May 25th. There was a great turnout last Wednesday morning, and we look forward to more mornings of enjoyable tennis, and a catch-up over coffee, thanks to all those who have either hosted or supported the mornings so far!

Junior News

The Junior summer coaching term is now up and running along with match-play on Friday evenings.

The Junior Committee has asked us to give you all good notice of the Parent and Child Tournament which will be held on Monday 6th June from 12 – 3pm. The sign-up sheet is on the notice board and the contribution will be €20 per family entering. The funds raised will be in aid of T4C (Tennis for Cancer) which is headed up by our own club member Grace Owens. Please bring along a plate of goodies if you are attending.

Club Night

Club night tonight will be hosted by Isabella. Do come along and Stephen will give some coaching support at the beginning of the evening. This is an opportunity to meet and play with members of varying standards and is a relaxed evening of tennis.

Isabella is playing a blinder hosting club night regularly along with being the clubs event co-ordinator so do give her a break and volunteer to host an evening – we would really appreciate it.

Hope you all are enjoying the beautiful sunshine and have a good weekend.
